TIDAL Student Discount: Music or DJ Student?
TIDAL Student is listed at $6.99 per month in the U.S.; TIDAL DJ Student is $14.49 per month. Eligible students verify through SheerID and subscribe directly through TIDAL. Choose the ordinary Student plan for listening; budget the higher DJ Student total only if you need compatible DJ integration. Official USD plans, student conditions. Verified October 15, 2026.

Source: TIDAL's USD subscription list, updated August 3, 2026. These are official published prices, not a purchase performed for your account. The pricing page describes DJ access as requiring compatible DJ software. Prices and plan availability can vary by country.
The current USD list does not publish a fixed student-discount percentage. The official percentage is not published in that table; an unpublished percentage does not mean there is no discount. Calculate from matching plans: ordinary Student saves $5 monthly ($11.99 − $6.99), or $5 ÷ $11.99 × 100 ≈ 41.7%. DJ Student saves $5.50 against DJ Individual, or $5.50 ÷ $19.99 × 100 ≈ 27.5%. These percentages are our calculations, not an official blanket “half price” promise. Inputs verified October 15, 2026.
What DJ Student adds to your listening budget
The useful upgrade comparison is Student versus DJ Student, not DJ Student versus a different household's subscription. At the listed inputs, the additional monthly amount is $7.50 = $14.49 − $6.99.
| Unchanged fully paid monthly cycles | Student listening | DJ Student total | Additional DJ spending |
|---|---|---|---|
| One | $6.99 | $14.49 | $7.50 |
| Three | $20.97 | $43.47 | $22.50 |
| Six | $41.94 | $86.94 | $45 |
| Twelve | $83.88 | $173.88 | $90 |
Formulas: Student cost = cycles × $6.99; DJ Student cost = cycles × $14.49; difference = cycles × $7.50. These are planning examples with unchanged prices and no tax, trial, software charges or partial-cycle adjustments. They are not annual packages. Both price inputs come from the official list checked October 15, 2026.
The full price and the extra price answer different questions
If you already intend to pay for ordinary Student, the DJ decision adds $7.50 a month to that plan comparison. If you would otherwise buy no TIDAL subscription, your proposed bill is the whole $14.49. Using only the upgrade amount in the second situation leaves the listening portion unfunded.
Conversely, adding $6.99 to the advertised $14.49 total double-counts the base subscription. That produces $21.48 instead of $14.49, an overstatement of $6.99 each month. Across twelve unchanged cycles, the error is $83.88. Write the total and its increase on separate lines so that neither disappears and neither gets charged twice in your worksheet.
There is another misleading comparison: DJ Student costs $2.50 more than regular Individual listening ($14.49 − $11.99). That does not show the student discount has failed. You have changed both eligibility and product capability. To measure the discount, compare DJ Student with DJ Individual; to measure the upgrade, compare DJ Student with Student. The first gap is $5.50 and the second is $7.50. They describe different decisions and cannot be substituted for one another.
An example makes the distinction concrete. Over six paid cycles, the DJ student rate is $33 below DJ Individual: 6 × ($19.99 − $14.49). Yet choosing DJ Student instead of ordinary Student costs an additional $45 over those same cycles. You can receive a discount and still spend more because you selected the more expensive product. A discount is not a cash credit that cancels the upgrade.
Allocate the DJ increase to actual practice
For someone who would keep ordinary Student either way, divide the additional $7.50 by the number of DJ practice sessions they actually expect to use that month. This is a personal allocation of a subscription bill, not TIDAL charging per session.
| Illustrative DJ sessions in one paid month | Allocation of the $7.50 increase |
|---|---|
| Two | $3.75 per session |
| Four | $1.875, rounded to $1.88 per session |
| Eight | $0.9375, rounded to $0.94 per session |
Formula: $7.50 ÷ sessions. The session counts are declared examples, not measured student behavior. The rounded amounts are presentation figures; multiplying them back can produce a small rounding difference from the actual $7.50 monthly increase. TIDAL's subscription charge remains the selected plan's charge.
With no DJ sessions, do not report a zero cost per session. Division by zero is undefined; you paid the subscription increase without using the added capability in this scenario. That is a useful signal for the next purchase decision, rather than evidence that the service itself was free.
The same allocation changes if listening is not something you would buy independently. In that case use the full $14.49 as the numerator. For four sessions, $14.49 ÷ 4 = $3.6225, approximately $3.62 per session, before any software fee. The smaller $1.88 figure answers a narrower question: how much DJ adds for a listener who already wants the base plan.
Keep your software bill in the same worksheet
TIDAL DJ is a streaming integration, and the official DJ page lists partner products such as rekordbox, Serato and VirtualDJ. It says capabilities such as stem separation vary by partner. Verified October 15, 2026. Do not assume every advertised feature works in every application or that the TIDAL price purchases a separate software license.
Let S be the additional monthly software cost your chosen setup actually requires. Your total is $14.49 + S; the increase above Student listening alone is $7.50 + S. If you already own the required software entitlement and incur no extra charge, S is zero for this comparison. If an app needs another paid tier, leaving S blank is more honest than assigning it an invented free price.
Before paying, name the application and the specific feature you need inside it. A successful TIDAL login in the listening app does not demonstrate that the desired DJ integration or partner-specific feature is enabled. Compare the cost of a working setup with a working alternative, rather than treating an unsupported feature as purchased simply because your account says Student.
Eligibility and direct billing
TIDAL's student help page covers eligible college students and U.S. high-school students aged at least 16. SheerID controls school and location eligibility. The discount requires direct TIDAL billing; subscriptions through Apple or Google and Family-plan memberships do not qualify for this student discount. Verified October 15, 2026. Official student requirements.
Existing direct subscribers can visit their account's Subscription section and select Student Discount. Prepare enrollment evidence showing the matching full name, institution and a date in the current academic year. Follow the verifier's request rather than assuming account creation alone activates student pricing. TIDAL's verification instructions. Verified October 15, 2026.
Trial and renewal details worth checking
TIDAL advertises a 30-day trial for eligible new customers. Keep that introductory period separate from the fully paid-cycle calculations above. It does not make the ongoing DJ upgrade free. Trial FAQ. Verified October 15, 2026.
There is a discrepancy in TIDAL's published reverification guidance: its Student Plan help article says every 11 months, while the student landing-page FAQ says every 12 months. Both were read October 15, 2026. This guide does not claim those statements agree. Check the deadline displayed for your account and ask TIDAL or SheerID if it is unclear; do not rely on the later generic FAQ date to extend your own deadline.
The help article says missing reverification triggers the full Individual price on the next billing date. Do not turn that wording into a quoted future DJ renewal charge. Confirm the exact selected plan and upcoming amount in your account. TIDAL's price-update notice also explains that the revised rates took effect on billing dates from August 3, 2026. Older student prices are not this guide's inputs.

Choose the capability first, then compare its student and regular prices. For DJ access, record both the complete setup cost and the extra spending above listening alone. That makes the decision depend on practice you will use, not on a discount attached to the wrong plan.
How This Guide Was Researched
This guide checks TIDAL's official USD subscription list, student conditions and DJ information. The cost worksheets are our calculations using dated official inputs; they are not account-specific checkout results.
